This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
β’ Take full ownership of major features from conception through to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
β’ Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for crucial features.
β’ Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
β’ Assist engineers by removing obstacles and addressing team challenges.
β’ Standardize solutions and unify shared components.
β’ Ensure shared code is well-tested, clear, and maintainable.
β’ Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
β’ Minimize the need for manual interventions to ensure accurate releases.
β’ Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
β’ Increase automated verification and shift testing earlier in the process.
β’ Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
β’ Establish review criteria and ownership of approvals.
β’ Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
β’ Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
β’ Mentor junior engineers.
β’ Write and review code while taking a hands-on approach to feature ownership.
β’ Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leading a team or taking ownership of a significant feature while remaining hands-on.
β’ Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
β’ Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
β’ Understanding the importance of testing and the approach to writing effective tests, including the limitations of what can be covered.
β’ An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that continued after your involvement, along with an honest analysis of the effort required to achieve that.
β’ Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging others to change their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
β’ Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
β’ A proven history of building useful tools for your team, not just those that enhance your own efficiency.
β’ The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal experience.
β’ Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
β’ A self-motivated approach to improving the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
β’ Exceptional communication skills.
β’ Completion of several technical interviews plus an evaluation on a real codebase.
