This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Take ownership of major features from conception to release, collaborating closely with the design team.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members by directly investigating and resolving issues.
• Standardize reusable implementations across the team.
• Maintain tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive improvements to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification left and broaden automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Define review requirements and establish approval ownership.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Support early-career engineers with learning-oriented tasks and dedicated time to learn.
• Write code, review code, and actively take ownership of features.
• Conduct a walkthrough discussing technical reasoning during the interview process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding of the significance of tests and how to effectively write them, including areas that cannot be covered by tests.
• An example of something you introduced to a team that remained after you stepped back, along with an honest reflection on the effort required to achieve that.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: persuading colleagues to alter their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the functionality of the system.
• A proven record of building solutions that your team genuinely utilized, rather than just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to explain how your team interacts with AI agents, not solely your personal experience.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to enhance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews and an assessment based on a real codebase.
