This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Idaho.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception to release in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Engage in coding, code reviews, and hands-on ownership of features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable implementations throughout the team.
• Ensure that shared components are tested, clear, and well-consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during correct releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing the underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Facilitate planning and prioritize tasks that necessitate decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Take part in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering impactful work and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant project while remaining actively involved.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in launching and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Recognition of the critical role of tests and strategies for writing them, including understanding limitations.
• Proven experience in implementing sustainable improvements for the team.
• Comfort in asking team members to adapt their work methods and managing any resulting challenges.
• Ability to discern which changes require thorough reviews and which do not.
• A history of developing solutions that the team actively utilizes.
• Capability to articulate the team's interaction with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to enhancing Android UI/UX beyond the basic requirements.
• Initiative to enhance the application and codebase beyond specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience with open-source Android projects is advantageous.
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus.
