Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.

• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles and investigate technical challenges.

• Identify reusable solutions and standardize them within the team.

• Maintain shared components through rigorous testing, thorough documentation, and consolidation efforts.

• Drive improvements in team processes.

• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.

• Address persistent issues at the foundational system level.

• Expand automated verification processes and promote early testing.

• Facilitate planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.

• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.

• Engage in discussions encompassing Product, Design, and Engineering.

• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and guidance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.

• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.

• Strong understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.

• An example of a practice you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, including a candid assessment of the effort required to implement it.

• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: persuading colleagues to change their work habits and managing the resulting friction.

• Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.

• A proven history of developing solutions that benefit the team, not just personal efficiency.

• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual contributions.

• Strong product design instincts, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.

• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Completion of several technical interviews, along with an evaluation of a real codebase.
