This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to release in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback for educational purposes.
• Assist engineers in overcoming technical obstacles.
• Streamline duplicated implementations into cohesive team solutions.
• Ensure that shared code is thoroughly tested, clear, well-maintained, and unified.
• Lead modifications to team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the manual interventions necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying foundational systems.
• Promote early verification through increased automated testing.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Define review criteria and approval procedures.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with opportunities for learning and development.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including what cannot be covered.
• An example of a successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest account of the effort required.
• Comfort in encouraging colleagues to adapt their work methods and managing the ensuing challenges.
• Insight into which modifications warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• Proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized.
• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is outlined in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Contributions to open source Android projects and experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS are advantageous but not mandatory.
