This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Oversee, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by diagnosing and resolving complex issues.
• Standardize solutions for the entire team and streamline duplicate implementations.
• Maintain shared components to ensure they are tested, clear, and reusable.
• Drive improvements to team processes.
• Minimize manual interventions necessary for successful releases.
• Enhance underlying systems to avert recurring issues.
• Shift verification left by broadening automated checks.
• Manage planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Identify suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Address critical issues, manage feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with meaningful projects and dedicated learning time.
• Write and review code while leading the Android core product team.
• Take part in several technical interviews and conduct assessments on a real codebase during the hiring process.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• Comprehension of the significance of testing and methods for writing tests, including limitations.
• An example of a contribution you made to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest reflection on the effort required to achieve that.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that are utilized by your team, not just those that enhance your personal efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual contributions.
• An intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a passion for advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Engagement in numerous technical interviews and assessment on a real codebase.
