This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist team members by resolving challenging issues.
• Identify successful implementations that should be adopted as team-wide standards and facilitate their integration.
• Maintain shared code and streamline duplicated implementations.
• Initiate changes to team processes as necessary.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during release processes.
• Address recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Shift verification earlier in the process by enhancing automated checks prior to QA.
• Organize planning sessions to ensure the team focuses on work that requires decision-making.
• Determine suitable review levels and necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, communicating team constraints upfront.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Provide mentorship to early-career engineers through manageable tasks and dedicated learning time.
• Actively participate in coding by writing and reviewing code while leading the Android Core Product team.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other extended background processes.
• An understanding of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including limitations on what can be tested.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the efforts required to achieve this.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to change their working methods and managing the ensuing friction.
• A perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system’s functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team genuinely utilized, rather than just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• A sense of product design intuition, user empathy, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-driven attitude to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
