This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Take ownership of major features from conception to release in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Write and review code while offering constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and investigate any stalled tasks.
• Standardize successful implementations for team utilization.
• Maintain shared components to ensure they are tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Spearhead changes to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.
• Shift verification earlier in the process by increasing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on work that necessitates decision-making.
• Define suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering while raising team constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.
• Ensure early-career engineers are assigned meaningful work and learning opportunities.
• Actively participate in coding while leading the team.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership or ownership of major features while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including acknowledging what cannot be tested.
• Demonstrated contribution to a team that persisted beyond the candidate's involvement, with an honest assessment of its cost.
• Comfort in requesting changes in how others work and managing the resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on system behavior.
• Proven track record of developing tools that the entire team utilizes, beyond just productivity aids.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and motivation to enhance Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond established requirements.
• Excellent communication skills.
