This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers by resolving technical challenges to eliminate obstacles.
• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Address persistent issues through fundamental system modifications.
• Shift verification processes earlier by broadening automated checks.
• Oversee planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Determine suitable review levels and approval processes.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Support early-career engineers by assigning appropriately challenging tasks and allowing time for learning.
• Actively participate by writing and reviewing code while leading the Android core product team.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other forms of long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of coverage.
• A notable contribution you made to a team that endured after your involvement ended, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve that.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in workflows and managing the ensuing friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team actively utilizes, rather than merely those that enhance your own productivity.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal approach.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive mindset to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an evaluation on a real codebase.
