This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Take ownership of key features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Oversee, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers by diagnosing and resolving technical challenges.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and promote their implementation.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Spearhead improvements to team processes and workflows.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and necessary sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-centric tasks and development opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or overseeing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proficient in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Awareness of the significance of tests and methodologies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to the team that endured after your involvement ended, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the associated friction.
• Insight into which modifications necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing tools that your team utilizes, rather than solely those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capacity to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, in addition to your personal approach.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects (preferred).
• Background in iOS, Web, or NodeJS (preferred).
