This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers by diagnosing and resolving obstacles they encounter.
• Recognize reusable solutions and standardize them across the team.
• Oversee shared components through testing, documentation, and consolidation efforts.
• Champion improvements to team processes.
• Minimize the manual interventions needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing the foundational systems.
• Shift verification processes to the left and broaden automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on outstanding decisions.
• Establish suitable review requirements and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, communicating team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Ensure that early-career engineers are assigned growth-oriented tasks and dedicated learning time.
• Write code, review code, and take a hands-on approach to feature ownership.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, including time spent leading a team or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• A solid understanding of the importance of tests and the approach to writing them, including aspects that cannot be covered by testing.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest account of the costs incurred to achieve that.
• Comfort in asking others to adapt their work methods, and the ability to manage the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven record of building tools that your team actively utilized, not just those that increased your own efficiency.
• The capability to explain how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications provided.
• A self-driven attitude towards enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
