This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical challenges and obstacles.
• Identify and standardize reusable solutions within the team.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing foundational systems.
• Shift verification to the left and increase the number of automated checks prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions to direct the team's focus toward work that demands decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and define approval responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering while conveying team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and development opportunities.
• Actively participate in coding and code reviews while leading the Android core product team.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including their limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest reflection on the cost of implementation.
• Comfort in navigating the less popular aspects of the role, such as encouraging team members to change their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of creating tools or features that benefited the team as a whole, rather than solely enhancing personal efficiency.
• The capability to explain how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual practices.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specified requirements.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is outlined in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews, along with an assessment on a real codebase.
