This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Finland.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers by resolving issues that hinder progress.
• Identify reusable implementations and standardize them across the team.
• Maintain shared components through thorough testing, documentation, and consolidation.
• Lead initiatives to improve team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Expand automated verification processes before nightly builds are delivered to QA.
• Facilitate planning and direct the team's focus on pending decisions.
• Establish appropriate levels of review and sign-off requirements.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with impactful tasks and learning opportunities.
• Write, review, and take ownership of Android code while guiding the team.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience in leading a team or managing a significant feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionalities.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An example of a change you implemented that persisted after your involvement ended, including an honest evaluation of the costs involved.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role, such as encouraging team members to alter their work habits and managing the resulting challenges.
• Insights into which modifications require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that have been utilized by the team, not just enhancements that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal contributions.
• An intuitive sense of product design, empathy for users, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
