This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
β’ Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
β’ Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
β’ Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
β’ Assist engineers by removing obstacles and resolving team challenges.
β’ Standardize successful implementations for use across the entire team.
β’ Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
β’ Lead improvements to team processes.
β’ Minimize the manual interventions needed for successful releases.
β’ Tackle recurring issues by implementing fundamental system changes.
β’ Shift verification processes to earlier stages and enhance automated checks.
β’ Conduct planning sessions and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
β’ Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off criteria.
β’ Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
β’ Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
β’ Mentor early-career engineers by offering valuable learning experiences.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, with a background in leading a team or managing a significant project while maintaining hands-on involvement.
β’ Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
β’ Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
β’ Strong understanding of the importance of tests and a clear strategy for writing them, including awareness of limitations.
β’ An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that continued after your involvement ended, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
β’ Comfort with encouraging changes in team workflows and managing any resulting friction.
β’ An informed perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
β’ A proven history of building solutions that are actively utilized by your team.
β’ Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
β’ Intuition in product design, empathy for users, and motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
β’ Self-motivation to enhance both the application and codebase beyond the initial specifications.
β’ Exceptional communication skills.
β’ Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects is a plus.
β’ Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a bonus.
