Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Czechia.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the entire process.

• Maintain and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.

• Assist team members by identifying and resolving any obstacles they encounter.

• Identify and unify solutions that should be established as shared implementations within the team.

• Ensure shared components are thoroughly tested, well-documented, and properly maintained.

• Lead initiatives to improve team processes and workflows.

• Minimize the need for manual intervention during release processes.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.

• Shift verification processes earlier in the workflow and broaden automated testing.

• Facilitate planning sessions to ensure team focus is directed toward decision-critical tasks.

• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, proactively addressing team constraints.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.

• Mentor early-career team members by providing them with impactful work and dedicated learning opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.

• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.

• Comprehension of the significance of testing and strategies for writing tests, including areas that cannot be covered by them.

• An example of a contribution you made to a team that became a lasting practice after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.

• Some experience with encouraging behavioral changes in team members and managing the subsequent friction.

• A perspective on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, grounded in the system's functionality.

• A proven history of developing solutions that are actively utilized by your team.

• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.

• Strong intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a drive to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.

• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.

• Exceptional communication abilities.

• Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is advantageous.
