This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.
• Take ownership of significant Android core product features from inception to release, collaborating closely with Design throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for crucial features.
• Write code, conduct pull request reviews, and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by investigating and resolving technical challenges.
• Streamline shared implementations and ensure that shared components are thoroughly tested and maintainable.
• Drive improvements in team processes and working methodologies.
• Minimize the manual effort required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing the foundational setup.
• Move verification earlier in the process and broaden automated testing.
• Conduct planning sessions and direct team focus on pending decisions.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering and advocate for team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with appropriately challenging tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
• Recognize the significance of testing and how to approach writing tests, including understanding what cannot be tested.
• An example of a change you introduced that was sustained after your departure, along with an honest evaluation of the effort involved.
• Comfort in requesting changes in workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which modifications require extensive review and which do not.
• Proven record of creating solutions that the entire team utilizes.
• Capability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and motivation to enhance Android UI/UX beyond the initial specifications.
• Self-motivation to advance the app and codebase beyond basic requirements.
• Strong communication skills.
• Links to portfolio and LinkedIn are requested.
• Experience in open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is considered a bonus.
