Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of significant Android features from conception to release, collaborating closely with the Design team.

• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.

• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and resolving technical challenges.

• Recognize reusable implementations and standardize them across the team.

• Ensure shared components remain tested, clear, and well-organized.

• Drive improvements in team processes.

• Minimize manual interventions required for successful releases.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.

• Shift verification processes earlier in the workflow and broaden automated testing.

• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.

• Establish review criteria and approval responsibilities.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds to the QA team.

• Assist early-career engineers through mentorship and learning-oriented tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.

• Understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.

• A successful initiative you implemented within a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve it.

• Comfort in encouraging others to alter their work methodologies and managing any resultant friction.

• Ability to assess which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not.

• Proven history of developing solutions that the entire team actively utilized.

• Capability to explain how the team collaborates with AI agents.

• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a passion for enhancing Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.

• Self-motivated to elevate the app and codebase beyond initial requirements.

• Exceptional communication abilities.
