This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Help engineers overcome obstacles and investigate any stalled tasks.
• Recognize reusable implementations and standardize them across the team.
• Ensure shared components are thoroughly tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements to team processes and methods of operation.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.
• Shift verification processes earlier and broaden automated checks prior to QA.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on work that requires decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering to highlight team constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Assist early-career engineers with development tasks and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a key surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Knowledge of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a successful initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve that.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team actively uses, rather than just those that expedited your work.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Outstanding communication skills.
