This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members by removing obstacles and addressing technical challenges.
• Recognize reusable implementations and promote their adoption across the team.
• Oversee shared code components, ensuring their testing, clarity, and consolidation.
• Drive improvements to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes and broaden automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers, offering them learning opportunities and guidance.
• Minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience in leading a team or managing a significant feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Awareness of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations that cannot be addressed through tests.
• A noteworthy contribution you made to a team that persisted after your departure, along with a candid assessment of the effort involved in achieving that.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role, such as advocating for changes in work practices and managing the resulting challenges.
• An informed perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of constructing solutions that were genuinely utilized by your team, not just those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• Capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, rather than just how you engage with them personally.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond initial specifications.
• Self-motivated to enhance the app and codebase beyond what's detailed in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
