This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut.
• Take ownership of major features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, maintain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and provide valuable feedback to peers.
• Help team members overcome obstacles and resolve technical issues.
• Identify successful implementations for broader team adoption.
• Maintain shared components and consolidate redundant implementations.
• Lead improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing foundational systems.
• Shift verification processes left and broaden automated checks.
• Lead planning efforts and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Address critical issues, manage feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.
• Assist early-career engineers by providing suitable learning opportunities.
• Write and review code while actively owning features.
• Participate in technical interviews and complete a real-codebase assessment during the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leading a team or managing a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• Deep understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, including an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the ensuing friction.
• A perspective on which changes warrant rigorous review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of developing features that were genuinely utilized by the team, rather than solely those that improved personal efficiency.
• The ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your individual contributions.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and a passion for advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Initiative to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Excellent communication abilities.
• Submission of portfolio and LinkedIn links is requested with the application.
• Experience with open-source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is considered a plus.
