This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by removing obstacles and addressing technical challenges.
• Identify and standardize reusable solutions for the team.
• Ensure shared code is tested, clear, well-maintained, and consolidated.
• Lead initiatives to improve team processes and working methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure proper releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Promote early verification by expanding automated testing procedures.
• Conduct planning sessions centered on work that necessitates decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and determine approval responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, highlighting team constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with appropriately challenging tasks and allocated learning time.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leading a team or managing a major component while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of testing and strategies for writing tests, including limitations.
• An example of a change you implemented in a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing tools and features that have been actively used by the team, not just those that enhance personal efficiency.
• The ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond personal contributions.
• A strong intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• A self-driven approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
