This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Resolve team obstacles by directly investigating any impediments.
• Merge redundant solutions into unified implementations for the team.
• Ensure the maintenance of tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Champion improvements to team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Broaden automated verification and advance testing early in the development cycle.
• Lead planning sessions focused on tasks requiring decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, highlighting team constraints promptly.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with suitably challenging tasks and dedicated learning time.
• Write, review, and manage Android code and features while guiding the team.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and how to approach their creation, including limitations.
• An example of something you implemented within a team that remained after your influence waned, along with a candid account of what it took to achieve it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not solely your personal methods.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• A proactive attitude towards enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
