This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical challenges.
• Recognize and standardize reusable solutions for the team.
• Maintain shared components through testing, documentation, and integration.
• Initiate changes to team processes when necessary.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by enhancing underlying systems.
• Shift verification earlier in the process by increasing automated checks.
• Lead planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish suitable review standards and ownership for sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team limitations proactively.
• Manage critical issues, take responsibility for feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering learning opportunities.
• Conduct technical interviews and assess real codebases as part of the recruitment process.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or managing a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Knowledge of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including limitations on what they can cover.
• An example of an initiative you introduced that persisted after you stopped advocating for it, including an honest assessment of the effort required to implement it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: persuading individuals to modify their workflows and managing the ensuing friction.
• Insight into which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of constructing tools that your team actively utilized, not just those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.
• An intuitive sense for product design, user empathy, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A proactive approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
