This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception to release in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members by removing obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable solutions throughout the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Propose enhancements to team workflows.
• Minimize manual interventions necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues at the underlying system level.
• Broaden automated verification and implement early testing.
• Conduct planning sessions centered on unresolved decisions.
• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers with suitably challenging tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or managing a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including aspects that cannot be tested.
• An example of a contribution to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Comfort in addressing the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which alterations warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that your team actively utilizes, rather than only those that enhance your own efficiency.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal approach.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
