This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take full ownership of significant Android features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with Design throughout the process.
• Be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the reliability metrics of key features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to enhance development.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and resolving implementation challenges.
• Identify reusable solutions within the team and streamline duplicate implementations.
• Ensure the maintenance of well-tested, clear, and unified shared components.
• Lead initiatives to improve team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying foundational systems.
• Shift verification processes to the left and broaden the scope of automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focusing on outstanding decisions.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off protocols.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and development opportunities.
• Write and review code while leading the Android core product team.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, with experience in team leadership or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other types of long-running background tasks.
• Strong understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations that can't be covered.
• An example of a practice you implemented in a team that continued after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve this.
• Comfort in encouraging team members to adapt their workflows and managing any resulting challenges.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough reviews and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A solid history of developing solutions that are actively utilized by the rest of the team.
• Ability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents.
• Intuition in product design, empathy for users, and motivation to enhance Android UI/UX beyond basic requirements.
• A proactive approach to improving the app and codebase beyond the initial specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews plus an evaluation on a real codebase.
