This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance the reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and deliver constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical obstacles.
• Implement solutions across the team and unify redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and reusable.
• Foster enhancements in team processes.
• Minimize the manual efforts required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining the underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification and advance testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Oversee planning and prioritize tasks that necessitate decision-making.
• Identify suitable review levels and necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, take responsibility for feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing learning opportunities.
• Conduct technical interviews and assess candidates on a real codebase.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including experience leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and methods for writing them, including areas that cannot be covered by tests.
• An example of a change you introduced that remained after your involvement ended, along with an honest reflection on the costs associated with it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging colleagues to alter their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A history of creating solutions that were genuinely utilized by the team, not just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to explain how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is outlined in the specifications.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Completion of multiple technical interviews plus an evaluation on an actual codebase.
