This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Conduct pull request reviews and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by removing obstacles and resolving technical issues.
• Recognize and standardize reusable solutions within the team.
• Maintain clear, tested, and consolidated shared components.
• Propel changes to team processes and operational methods.
• Minimize the manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by expanding automated testing.
• Oversee planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Define review criteria and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers with work focused on learning and development time.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a major feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including areas that cannot be covered by tests.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with a candid assessment of the effort it took to achieve that.
• Some comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging colleagues to alter their working methods and managing the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the functionality of the system.
• A history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to push Android UI/UX beyond the specifications provided.
• A self-driven attitude towards enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is delineated in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open source Android projects (Bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (Bonus).
