Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of major features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.

• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles and directly investigate roadblocks.

• Identify reusable implementations and standardize them across the team.

• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.

• Lead initiatives to improve team processes.

• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.

• Enhance verification processes by increasing automated checks.

• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.

• Establish review requirements and approval standards.

• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team constraints proactively.

• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.

• Mentor early-career engineers by providing relevant learning opportunities.

• Write and review code while actively owning features.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including a leadership role or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.

• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other types of long-running background tasks.

• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.

• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that was sustained after your involvement, along with a candid discussion of the costs involved.

• Comfort with the more challenging aspects of the role: encouraging team members to alter their work habits and managing the associated friction.

• An informed perspective on which changes warrant thorough review and which do not, based on system functionality.

• A proven history of developing solutions that benefit the entire team, not solely those that enhance your own efficiency.

• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.

• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.

• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.

• Exceptional communication skills.

• Completion of several technical interviews and an assessment on a real codebase.
