This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of key features from inception to delivery, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles by directly investigating issues.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and merge redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are thoroughly tested, well-documented, and reusable.
• Advocate for improvements in team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing the foundational setup.
• Shift verification processes to the left and broaden automated checks before QA.
• Conduct planning sessions that center on decision-making work.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off procedures.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by assigning significant tasks and allowing time for learning.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant product while remaining actively involved.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of testing and approaches to writing tests, including limitations of test coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that was sustained after your involvement ceased, along with a candid account of the effort it required.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging others to alter their work habits and managing the ensuing friction.
• Insight on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, not just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.
• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond basic specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
