This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer meaningful feedback.
• Assist engineers by investigating and resolving stalled tasks.
• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.
• Ensure shared code is well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Lead enhancements to team processes.
• Minimize the manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.
• Shift verification to earlier stages by increasing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on outstanding decisions.
• Establish review requirements and approval thresholds.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing them with meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or managing a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a successful initiative you introduced to a team that continued after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to implement it.
• Some familiarity with the challenging aspects of the role: encouraging people to alter their work habits, and dealing with the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of creating tools and features that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that expedited your own work.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your individual approach.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specified requirements.
• A proactive attitude towards enhancing the app and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an evaluation on a real codebase.
