This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Conduct reviews of pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by investigating and resolving stalled tasks.
• Identify reusable solutions for the team and promote their implementation.
• Maintain shared components through testing, clarity, and consolidation efforts.
• Spearhead improvements to team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Shift verification earlier in the process and broaden automated checks prior to QA.
• Facilitate planning sessions and direct the team's focus on unresolved tasks.
• Establish appropriate review standards and necessary sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Provide mentorship and learning opportunities for early-career engineers.
• Write and review code while actively owning features.
• Successfully complete multiple technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment as part of the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while maintaining hands-on involvement.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or long-running background processes.
• Strong understanding of the significance of tests and approaches to writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a contribution you made to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with an honest account of the effort it required.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspect of the role: persuading colleagues to change their workflows and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven track record of delivering solutions that your team actively utilized, not just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capacity to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, in addition to your personal contributions.
• An intuitive sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specified requirements.
• A self-motivated approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
• Completion of multiple technical interviews and an assessment on a real codebase.
