This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of major features from inception through to release in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by investigating ongoing issues to remove obstacles.
• Identify reusable solutions within the team and promote their implementation.
• Ensure the maintenance of tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Champion modifications to team workflows.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by altering foundational systems.
• Enhance verification processes by increasing automated testing.
• Facilitate planning sessions centered around decision-making work.
• Establish appropriate review protocols and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, addressing constraints proactively.
• Manage critical incidents, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for quality assurance.
• Guide early-career engineers by offering suitable learning opportunities.
• Write and review code while taking direct ownership of features.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on developing text-to-speech products.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and supporting background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and effective strategies for writing them, including aspects that cannot be covered.
• An example of a practice introduced to a team that remained after the candidate's departure, with a candid account of its impact.
• Comfort in requesting changes in workflows and managing any resulting friction.
• Capability to discern which modifications necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on system behavior.
• Proven history of creating solutions that are actively utilized by the team.
• Ability to articulate how the team interacts with AI agents.
• Strong product design intuition, empathy for users, and a drive to elevate Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Initiative to enhance the application and codebase beyond set specifications.
• Outstanding communication abilities.
• Submission of a portfolio and LinkedIn profile with the application.
