This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
β’ Take ownership of significant Android features from conception to release, collaborating closely with Design.
β’ Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
β’ Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
β’ Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
β’ Standardize successful implementations for the entire team to utilize.
β’ Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
β’ Drive improvements to team processes and methodologies.
β’ Minimize manual intervention needed for accurate releases.
β’ Tackle recurring issues through foundational system modifications.
β’ Shift verification processes left by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
β’ Conduct planning sessions focused on outstanding decisions.
β’ Establish review criteria and necessary approvals.
β’ Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
β’ Manage critical challenges, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
β’ Mentor early-career engineers with suitably challenging tasks and learning opportunities.
β’ Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
β’ Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
β’ Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
β’ Understanding the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.
β’ An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that endured after your involvement ceased, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve that.
β’ Some comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: persuading individuals to alter their work habits and managing the ensuing friction.
β’ Insight on which changes require extensive review and which do not, supported by the system's functionality.
β’ A history of developing solutions that your team genuinely utilized, not only those that enhanced your own efficiency.
β’ The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, beyond your personal engagement.
β’ An instinct for product design, empathy for users, and the ambition to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
β’ A self-motivated approach to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
β’ Strong communication skills.
