This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members by troubleshooting and resolving technical obstacles.
• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive changes to team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure correct releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Promote early verification by increasing automated checks.
• Facilitate planning to ensure the team's focus on work that requires decision-making.
• Determine the appropriate levels of review and necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Offer learning opportunities to early-career engineers.
• Write code, review code, and actively take ownership of features.
• Complete technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment as part of the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles or ownership of significant surfaces while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Awareness of the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including limitations.
• A successful initiative you introduced to a team that remained after you ceased promoting it, with an honest account of the costs involved in achieving it.
• Comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in others' workflows and managing the ensuing friction.
• A perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of building tools that your team has actively utilized, rather than solely those that enhanced your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and a passion for elevating Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
