This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, enhance, and uphold reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive educational feedback.
• Assist engineers in overcoming technical challenges by investigating and resolving issues.
• Recognize reusable solutions within the team and merge redundant implementations.
• Ensure shared components are thoroughly tested, well-organized, maintained, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize manual interventions needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Promote early verification through enhanced automated testing.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams, communicating team limitations proactively.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.
• Mentor early-career engineers with substantial tasks and dedicated learning opportunities.
• Write code, review contributions, and oversee individual features while guiding the team.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of significant surfaces while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit testing.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-duration tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of testing and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a process or tool you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, along with a candid account of the cost of implementation.
• Comfort with the challenging aspects of the role, such as prompting changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which modifications require extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A record of creating solutions that are genuinely utilized by your team, not just those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, rather than just your personal experience.
• An instinct for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhance the application and codebase beyond the defined requirements.
• Strong communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
• Completion of multiple technical interviews along with an assessment of a real codebase.
