Team Lead, Android Core Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.

• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.

• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.

• Assist engineers by resolving impediments that halt progress.

• Standardize reusable solutions within the team.

• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.

• Drive modifications to team processes.

• Minimize the need for manual interventions for successful releases.

• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational systems.

• Broaden automated verification and prioritize early testing.

• Facilitate planning sessions centered on unresolved decisions.

• Establish review criteria and approval milestones.

• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.

• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for Quality Assurance.

• Mentor early-career engineers through impactful work and dedicated learning opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, with experience leading a team or managing a significant project while maintaining hands-on involvement.

• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.

• Experience in deploying and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.

• Recognize the significance of testing and have a strategy for writing them, including understanding what cannot be tested.

• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, including a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve that outcome.

• Some ease with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging colleagues to adapt their work habits and managing the subsequent challenges.

• An informed perspective on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.

• A proven history of developing solutions that are genuinely utilized by your team, rather than just improvements that enhance your own efficiency.

• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, rather than solely focusing on your individual contributions.

• A strong sense of product design, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specified requirements.

• A proactive approach to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
