This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback to team members.
• Assist team members by resolving obstacles that hinder progress.
• Identify reusable solutions and streamline shared components.
• Ensure shared elements are tested, well-organized, maintained, and consolidated.
• Advocate for changes to team processes as necessary.
• Minimize manual intervention needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by enhancing foundational systems.
• Shift verification to earlier stages through automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Determine suitable review levels and approval requirements.
• Engage in discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team constraints proactively.
• Address critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and guidance.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or managing a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations of test coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced that persisted after your involvement ended, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in workflows and navigating the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilizes, rather than just those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond just your personal contributions.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond standard specifications.
• A self-driven approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the requirements detailed in specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an evaluation on a real codebase.
