This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to release, collaborating closely with Design.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by diagnosing and resolving technical challenges.
• Integrate successful implementations into collective team solutions.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and reusable shared components.
• Enhance team workflows and determine when to modify working methods.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Advance verification processes by increasing automated checks.
• Conduct planning sessions centered on unresolved decisions.
• Establish suitable review levels and necessary approvals.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams while conveying team limitations.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including aspects that cannot be tested.
• Proven experience in introducing processes or practices that the team continues to adopt.
• Comfort in encouraging changes in how others work and managing any resulting friction.
• Capability to identify which changes require extensive review and which do not.
• History of developing solutions that the team actively utilizes.
• Ability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a desire to enhance Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to advance the app and codebase beyond the defined specifications.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Submission of portfolio and LinkedIn links is required with the application.
• Participation in several technical interviews along with an assessment on a real codebase.
• Experience with open source Android projects, iOS, Web, or NodeJS is considered a plus.
