This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch in collaboration with the design team.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist engineers by investigating and resolving any obstacles they encounter.
• Identify and standardize reusable solutions for the team.
• Maintain shared components through rigorous testing, documentation, and consolidation efforts.
• Drive improvements to team processes.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational systems.
• Shift verification processes to earlier stages and broaden automated testing.
• Facilitate planning sessions focused on outstanding decisions.
• Establish suitable review levels and approval criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly QA builds.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering learning-centered work and dedicated time.
• Write, review, and take ownership of Android code while guiding team best practices.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership roles or ownership of significant projects while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other types of long-running background tasks.
• Knowledge of the significance of testing and approaches to writing tests, including limitations.
• An example of a change you introduced to a team that remained effective after your involvement, along with an honest assessment of the cost to achieve that outcome.
• Some comfort in encouraging changes in work habits and navigating the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes warrant extensive review and which do not, supported by system functionality.
• A proven history of building solutions that are actively utilized by the team.
• Ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents.
• Strong intuition in product design, user empathy, and a passion for advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the app and codebase beyond the initial specifications.
