This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take complete ownership of significant features, collaborating closely with the design team from concept to launch.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist team members by directly addressing obstacles they encounter.
• Standardize effective implementations for collective use across the team.
• Ensure shared components are well-tested, clear, and consolidated.
• Recognize when the team should adapt its working methods.
• Minimize the manual input needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Advance verification processes by expanding automated checks prior to nightly QA builds.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering, and proactively highlight team constraints.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing them with meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in deploying and maintaining background audio or other long-term background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An example of a process you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement, including a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• A willingness to confront the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging changes in work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, supported by an understanding of system functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• A strong intuition for product design, empathy for users, and a commitment to elevating Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A self-motivated attitude towards enhancing the app and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (a plus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (a plus).
