This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception through to release, collaborating closely with the design team.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for crucial features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist team members by investigating and resolving technical impediments.
• Recognize reusable solutions and streamline duplicated implementations.
• Ensure shared components are tested, clear, and reusable.
• Drive improvements in team processes and workflows.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure correct releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the foundational setup.
• Shift verification processes earlier by increasing automated checks.
• Facilitate planning sessions to keep the team's focus on decisions needed for ongoing work.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions among Product, Design, and Engineering, raising team constraints promptly.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and supply nightly builds for QA.
• Provide meaningful work and learning opportunities for early-career engineers.
• Write and review code while taking a hands-on approach to feature ownership.
• Partake in multiple technical interviews and complete an assessment involving a real codebase during the hiring process.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or managing a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running tasks.
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations.
• An experience where you introduced a concept to a team that persisted after you ceased advocating for it, along with an honest account of the effort involved.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging colleagues to alter their work methods and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of developing tools and features that your team actively utilized, not solely those that improved your own speed.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, beyond just your personal methods.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and the ambition to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is outlined in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Experience in building, maintaining, or contributing to open-source Android projects (bonus).
• Familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS (bonus).
