This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of significant Android features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with Design throughout the process.
• Oversee, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Remove obstacles for engineers and address technical challenges.
• Identify and unify shared solutions for team-wide application.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and reusable shared components.
• Drive improvements to team processes and working methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Increase automated verification and integrate testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Conduct planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish suitable review levels and necessary sign-offs.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team limitations.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing meaningful tasks and learning opportunities.
• A minimum of 5 years in software engineering, including experience leading a team or owning a significant surface while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An example of an initiative you implemented within a team that persisted after your departure, along with a candid assessment of the effort involved.
• Some comfort level with encouraging colleagues to adjust their work practices and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes necessitate thorough reviews and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of developing tools that are actively utilized by your team.
• Capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents.
• An intuitive sense of product design, strong user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• A self-driven approach to enhancing the app and codebase beyond the defined specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Completion of several technical interviews and an assessment on a real codebase.
