This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria.
• Take full ownership of significant Android features, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the release process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Conduct reviews of pull requests and offer developmental insights.
• Assist engineers in overcoming obstacles by investigating ongoing issues.
• Recognize reusable implementations and promote their adoption across the team.
• Ensure the maintenance of well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Spearhead changes to team processes and operational methods.
• Minimize the manual intervention required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification and advance testing earlier in the development cycle.
• Lead planning sessions focused on unresolved decisions.
• Establish review criteria and approval milestones.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with learning-centric tasks and development time.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background processes.
• Strong understanding of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including aspects that cannot be tested.
• Experience in implementing a practice or system that continued to be utilized post-implementation.
• Comfort in requesting changes in work practices and managing any resulting friction.
• Ability to discern which changes require extensive review and which can proceed with minimal oversight, based on system behavior.
• Demonstrated history of creating solutions used by the broader team.
• Capability to articulate how the team integrates AI agents into its workflow.
• Strong product design intuition and user empathy.
• Self-motivation to enhance the app and codebase beyond initial specifications.
• Exceptional communication abilities.
• Submission of a portfolio and LinkedIn profile with the application.
• Experience with open source Android projects, or familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus, but not mandatory.
