This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception to release, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback on development.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles and investigate any work that has stalled.
• Standardize successful implementations for use across the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive improvements to team processes.
• Minimize the manual interventions needed for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Shift verification to earlier stages by increasing automated checks.
• Organize planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers through learning-focused work and development opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other types of long-running background tasks.
• Recognition of the significance of tests and a strategic approach to writing them, including awareness of what is not testable.
• An example of a change you initiated within a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with a candid assessment of the effort required to implement it.
• Comfort with the more challenging aspects of the role, such as persuading others to alter their workflows, and managing the resulting friction.
• An informed perspective on which changes necessitate thorough review and which do not, supported by an understanding of system functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that are utilized by the broader team, rather than solely those that enhance your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive grasp of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications provided.
• A proactive attitude towards enhancing the app and codebase in ways not explicitly outlined in the specifications.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Participation in several technical interviews along with an evaluation of a real codebase.
