This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive developmental feedback.
• Assist engineers by diagnosing and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable implementations across the team.
• Ensure shared code is tested, clear, well-maintained, and consolidated.
• Propel enhancements to team processes and workflows.
• Minimize manual interventions necessary for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying setup.
• Increase automated verification prior to nightly builds reaching QA.
• Conduct planning and prioritize tasks requiring decision-making.
• Establish review requirements and determine approval ownership.
• Engage in discussions involving Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with learning-focused tasks and development opportunities.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leading a team or owning a significant feature while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Proven experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background operations.
• Acknowledgment of the importance of tests and strategies for writing them, including recognizing areas that cannot be covered.
• An initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your push, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging team members to alter their work habits and managing the subsequent friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A history of developing solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own efficiency.
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions.
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Successful completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment on an actual codebase.
