This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Maintain and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer meaningful feedback.
• Remove obstacles for the team by thoroughly investigating and resolving issues.
• Standardize effective implementations for use across the team.
• Maintain well-tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Drive changes to team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize manual intervention required for successful releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying systems.
• Move verification earlier in the process by increasing automated checks prior to QA.
• Lead planning sessions focused on work that necessitates decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and sign-off responsibilities.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering to highlight team constraints early on.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers with tasks that encourage learning and allocate time for skill development.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a major component while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Understanding the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including limitations of coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with a candid account of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some comfort with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging colleagues to alter their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• A perspective on which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system’s functionality.
• A proven track record of developing solutions that your team genuinely utilized, beyond just enhancing your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team interacts with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive sense for product design, empathy for users, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications provided.
• A proactive attitude towards enhancing the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Exceptional communication skills.
