This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.
• Take ownership of significant features from conception to deployment, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming technical challenges and obstacles.
• Identify and standardize reusable solutions for the team.
• Maintain thoroughly tested, clear, and consolidated shared components.
• Spearhead changes to team processes.
• Minimize manual intervention required for successful releases.
• Resolve recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Enhance automated verification and integrate testing earlier in the development lifecycle.
• Oversee planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish review criteria and approval workflows.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
• Manage critical issues, take ownership of feature releases, and deliver nightly builds for QA.
• Provide support to early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and development time.
• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience, including experience in leading a team or managing a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Strong understanding of the significance of tests and how to approach writing them, including aspects that may not be testable.
• A noteworthy contribution you made to a team that persisted even after you stepped back, along with a candid reflection on the costs involved in achieving it.
• Some comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging others to change their work habits and managing the resulting friction.
• An understanding of which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of developing solutions that your team utilized, not just those that improved your own efficiency.
• The ability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not solely how you work individually.
• Strong product design intuition, user empathy, and the ambition to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the basic specifications.
• A self-motivated approach to enhance the app and codebase beyond what is detailed in the specifications.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Completion of several technical interviews along with an assessment based on a real codebase.
