This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process
• Manage, uphold, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive educational feedback
• Assist engineers in overcoming challenging issues by conducting thorough investigations
• Recognize and standardize solutions across the team
• Maintain shared code to ensure it remains tested, clear, and well-organized
• Propel modifications to team processes
• Minimize the necessity for manual intervention to ensure accurate releases
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying fundamental systems
• Shift verification processes earlier in development and enhance automated checks
• Lead planning sessions and prioritize tasks that involve decision-making
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA
• Support early-career engineers through learning-oriented tasks and dedicated development time
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant surface while remaining hands-on
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks
• Comprehension of the significance of tests and strategies for writing them, including limitations
• An example of a change you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ended, along with a candid evaluation of the effort required to achieve this
• Some level of comfort with the less popular aspects of the role: encouraging others to alter their work habits and managing the resulting friction
• Insight on which changes require extensive review and which do not, justified by the system’s functionality
• A proven history of creating tools and features that your team actively utilized, rather than solely those that improved your own speed
• Capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, beyond your personal contributions
• Intuition for product design, empathy for users, and the motivation to elevate Android UI/UX beyond the specifications
• Self-motivation to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is specified
• Outstanding communication abilities
• Successful completion of several technical interviews, along with an evaluation of work on a real codebase
