This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska.
• Take ownership of significant features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Review pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist team members in overcoming obstacles and resolving technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable implementations across the team.
• Ensure shared components are tested, well-documented, and consolidated.
• Drive improvements in team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual interventions to ensure accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying underlying systems.
• Promote early verification by expanding automated checks.
• Facilitate planning sessions and direct team focus on unresolved tasks.
• Establish appropriate levels for reviews and sign-off processes.
• Engage actively in discussions related to Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by offering meaningful projects and dedicated learning time.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering, including leadership experience or ownership of significant surfaces while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background tasks.
• A solid understanding of the significance of tests and approaches to writing them, including limitations on coverage.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that remained effective after your direct involvement ceased, along with an honest account of the costs associated with implementation.
• Comfort in addressing the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging changes in work methods and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes necessitate extensive reviews and which do not, based on system functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that are actively used by your team, rather than solely enhancing your own efficiency.
• The capability to explain how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal approach.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and the motivation to advance Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-driven approach to improving the application and codebase beyond the outlined specifications.
