This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Take full ownership of significant Android core product features from inception to launch, collaborating closely with the design team throughout the process.
• Manage, sustain, and enhance reliability metrics for vital features.
• Evaluate pull requests and offer constructive feedback.
• Assist engineers by removing obstacles and resolving complex technical challenges.
• Standardize reusable solutions and eliminate redundant implementations.
• Ensure that shared code remains well-tested, clear, maintained, and reusable.
• Drive enhancements to team processes and methodologies.
• Minimize the need for manual intervention during proper releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by modifying the underlying systems.
• Broaden automated verification and shift testing to earlier stages of development.
• Conduct planning and prioritize tasks that require decision-making.
• Establish suitable review levels and sign-off criteria.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering teams while communicating team limitations.
• Manage critical issues, take charge of feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA.
• Foster the growth and learning of junior engineers.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant feature while maintaining a hands-on role.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background tasks.
• Awareness of the significance of tests and the approach to writing them, including aspects that cannot be covered.
• An example of an initiative you introduced to a team that persisted after your involvement ceased, along with an honest assessment of the effort required to achieve it.
• Some familiarity with the less popular aspects of the job: encouraging behavioral changes in colleagues and managing the resulting friction.
• Insight into which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on the system's functionality.
• A proven history of creating solutions that your team actively utilized, rather than solely improving your own efficiency.
• The capability to articulate how your team collaborates with AI agents, not just your personal methods.
• An intuitive understanding of product design, user empathy, and a commitment to advancing Android UI/UX beyond the specifications.
• A self-motivated drive to enhance the application and codebase beyond what is specified.
• Strong communication abilities.
